St.Albans is blessed with excellent local pubs and eateries. As a regularly visiting Brummie I have tried most of them, but without doubt my favorite is The Lower Red Lion, situated in the historic and atmospheric Fishpool Street. This is the type of pub which typifies the British “local”. A good choice of well kept real ales, a cosy open fire, characterful regulars and a friendly welcome from Dave [sic] and his team. The home cooked food is always hearty, wholesome and of good quality at a reasonable price. A bonus, for St. Albans, is the car park at the rear, which is accessed through the coaching entrance to the side of the pub.

spent 2 nights at this pub with rooms over this last weekend. The Welcome upon arrival was very warm and friendly. My room was unbelieveably clean and yet pleasantly quirky. Good sized ensuite with bath and shower….

The landlord is very friendly, a new business. Room was spacious and quiet and very comfortable. Large bathroom. Breakfast was next to a wood burning stove in a panelled bar. Large breakfast and excellent coffee.
